User Research Approach
Note: exact answers from users cannot be shared but I’ve included the questions asked during the user interviews + survey.
User interviews:
Questions for employees that have gone back to the office:
Could you walk us through your process of returning to the office?
What aspects of it did you enjoy
What did you dislike?
How far in advance do you know if you’re going in person or not?
How do you find where your colleagues are onsite?
How was your experience working with remote colleagues during this time?
Questions for all employees:
Qualifying questions (who are they):
Could you tell me a bit about yourself? Your role at RBC, department, and what you do on a daily basis?
How many meetings in a week do you attend?
What other reasons, other meetings, you would currently go to the office?
How many meetings of those meetings do you have in person?
Are you the person setting the meetings or attending most of the meetings? Which do you more?
Meeting organizer specific questions:
Could you walk me through your process of organizing a meeting online?
If you wanted to organize a meeting in person, what would that process look like?
What instructions are you given to help employees RTP?
What types of meetings do you find are the most successful online and/or were the most successful in person?
How many hours are you spending in meetings per week on average?
Values questions (what is important to them):
What are most excited about when it comes to returning to premises? What are you the least excited about? What aspects of returning to premises do you anticipate to be stressful (interaction with new/other employees, finding a desk, etc.)?
Do you feel more productive in-person meetings or online meetings? open ended for a reason - want them to expand. Do we want our app to be a social app for RBC perhaps?
When you go for an in person meeting, how does it effect your productivity for the day?
What do you consider to be a successful meeting?
Are you more likely to participate in a discussion in person vs. in meeting online?
Are you more comfortable talking about sensitive issues in person or online? ( 1:1’s vs. large meetings)
Motivator questions (what will change their perception):
Do you feel less inclined to attend a meeting in person if at least one participant is attending online? Does this change with a minority or majority? What is the majority/minority percentage?
How do you feel about mandated vs. non-mandated meetings? (does every meeting have to be mandatory for someone to want to attend? What are the chances people will attend optional meetings?)
If you could indicate your preferences, and meetings could only be booked on those days by managers, would you be more likely attend frequently?
